- By trade I am a teacher. I have worked for over 20 years in elementary schools as a teacher and then librarian. This year I have finally graduated and began as a high school librarian in Orleans Parish. Over the years I have made objects with children using a variety of materials and mediums. As a librarian I developed skills as a storyteller.

As a young child I used to watch my mother sit at the machine to sew my clothes. My grandmother always had a pair of knitting needles in her hands. I wanted to do that too. I taught myself how to knit and crochet. I made cross stitch samplers and dolls by hand. By my early teens I was finally given formal sewing training. From there I couldn’t be stopped. I sewed almost everything I wore and in the 70’s I took apart jeans and sewed them into skirts and purses.

Over the years my creative outlet was for personal use or gifts for friends and family. Then Steve and I decided to pursue this venture. I had the skills I needed and though I have no formal art training in color and design, I have a very good eye. Working as a team has been very exciting, and we are very proud of our new creations.

That's me, on the right, with my friend Briggs at the 2004 New Orleans Jazz Fest. You can see that we are each wearing an evening bag with a different print.
